Green People: Baby Salve

Lexi and I were asked to review Baby Salve by Green People to see what we thought of their Organic Babies product.

Green People is a company that specialises in Organic body care products including their specialised Organic Babies products. Being totally honest, I didn't really know much about Green People so was really interested to learn more about the company and it's products - especially the Organic Babies range.

There is lots of great information on their website here. The most interesting part was how Organic Babies began;-

"Charlotte Vøhtz, Founder of Green People says, “I formulated the baby range as a result of my daughter Sandra’s eczema and severe skin allergies. Babies and children are far more sensitive to their surroundings than adults. Even tiny amounts of synthetic ingredients in lotions, creams, shampoos and other skin preparations can spark off allergic reactions. I believe that only the best is good enough for our young ones.”"

Baby Salve as a Nappy Barrier Cream

The thing I found most difficult to grasp at first was that the salve wasn't like other nappy "creams" I have used and currently use; it is not a cream but is actually rather like Vaseline. It is slightly thinner than Vaseline and therefore easier to spread without needing to rub but has the same oily type texture as Vaseline which actually makes perfect sense as it means it is water resistant meaning no wetness can get to baby's skin and therefore no nappy rash will occur from contact with their nappy. Their Organic Salve is made from 96% organic ingredients to help reduce inflammation and soreness in the nappy area and acts as a barrier to prevent nappy rash and also as a healing agent for current nappy rash. The Beeswax in it is what gives it the Vaseline type texture and makes it fantastically water resistant.

I must admit that I was quite put off by the strong smell of lavender that the salve has but then I'm not a big fan of Lavender's scent anyway. Lexi likes it though and it does always seem to sooth her so I think it is my personal taste as oppose to the actual smell.

The salve worked really well. Lexi didn't have any signs of irritation, redness or soreness for the whole week that we used it - even after eating pineapple which usually makes her a little bit sore. So I was really happy but mainly, Lexi was happy and comfortable, which was great!

Other Uses

I was also surprised that Organic Babies Salve has many, many other uses too...

"A great natural solution for sore, cracked nipples during breastfeeding and cradle cap. Baby Salve contains Omega fatty 3&6 fatty acids to nourish the skin. This multifunctional salve is excellent for all ages with very dry skin. Its super rich formula provides a drenching sensation for ultra dry skin including dry cracked heals and chapped hands."

A great product to have as not only does it work really well as a nappy barrier cream but it also has so many other great uses that us Mummies can have to deal with that it is the perfect product to keep in the cabinet for use on so many complaints and occasions. With an RRP of £9.70 I would say it is maybe a too expensive for me to be able to use it as a daily nappy rash preventative but I will definitely keep some in the cabinet for if Lexi does get a nasty flare-up or any severely dry skin.

A definite product to keep handy for us Mummies I would recommend it to all. Added to the fact that IT WORKS!, Green People Organic Babies salve boasts so many other fantastic credentials like being 100% gentle, 100% vegetarian, 100% cruelty-free ingredients, certified Organic plant oils, herbal infusions, essential oils, natural minerals and fairly traded ingredients. And it DOESNT contain any of these nasties which are in so many products: Parabens, Petrochemicals, Lanolin, Sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate, PABA-sunscreen, Urea, PEG’s, DEA, TEA, irritating emulsifiers, Ethyl alcohol (less than 1% only in A001 & R007), synthetic colours, perfume or any unnecessary synthetic additives common in many of today’s health and beauty products. It is also especially suitable for eczema sufferers.

But don't just take my word for it, Green People have received numerous Awards and positive feedback for their Organic Baby Salve. It is recommended by Midwives and Mums and winner of “Best Eco Friendly Breast Treatment 2011”in the recent TIPS awards too!

Organic Babies has other brilliant products in it's range too so pop over to the Green People website and have a peek! They also have a Facebook page so why not pop over and say hi and have a look at their other fantastic products for yourself, your family and your baby too!

Green People's Organic Baby salve is fantastic (ignoring my dislike of the smell!) and having had no nappy rash all week and having an extra soft and smooth bum, is definitely Loved By Lexi.
